A thrill seeker's guide to Six Flags Fiesta Texas
I just went to Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio this past Saturday with my fiancé. After doing extensive research and planning, we had an amazing day at the park. Our visit was very rollercoaster centered and was not really family-friendly oriented for those with little ones. But rest assured, there are several rides for kids at the park, I just will not be mentioning them in this blog post. If you're planning a trip to this unique theme park built in an old quarry, check out this guide for tips on how to plan the best adventure day at Six Flags Fiesta!

Get there early!
The most important tip I can give is to get to the park early! We went on a Saturday in April and there was a decent sized crowd early on. We paid for the General Parking but got pretty close parking since we were there so early! The park officially opens at 10:30am but they usually will open the Los Festivales section, which is the entrance pavilion with shops, about 30 minutes before the rest of the park. But more importantly, it also has two rides that sometimes open early as well. We arrived around 10:15am and were able to ride the rollercoaster Goliath with no wait at all. Goliath was a great starter ride for the day as it had some twists but overall wasn't too crazy. We then headed over to the ride Boomerang, but it was unfortunately shut down for the day. We waited about five minutes and then the rest of the park opened.
Crack Axle Canyon
If your main focus is rollercoasters, follow our route to avoid long lines! As soon as 10:30am came around we went straight towards the Crack Axle Canyon section of the park. Here you'll find 3 of the more popular rollercoasters, including their new ride Cliffhanger (the world's deepest dive coaster and our personal favorite ride at the park!). We went straight to Road Runner, which is a great family coaster (if you're looking for more of a thrill definitely skip this ride as it's slower and only worth it if going with kids or you prefer a more chill coaster without any twists or real drops). We planned to go to Iron Rattler next but could see it was temporarily closed for repairs, so we headed to Cliffhanger instead. With amazing drops and various twists, this ride was a must-do! Within the first 45 minutes of our day, we rode 3 rides with a 10-minute or less wait at each one! Iron Rattler was still closed for maintenance, so we continued on to the next section of the park.
DC Universe & Rockville
We went to the DC Universe section where we had no wait and rode the Superman rollercoaster. If you're a fan of a bunch of twists and turns this ride had a lot! It was one of the roughest rides we went on though, so if you're not a fan of the jostling kind of rollercoasters this ride might not be for you or your neck! After, we walked to the Rockville section. We decided against riding the Batman ride as it seems to just flip you upside-down a lot, and it's not really like most other rollercoasters. We then hoped to ride the Wonder Woman Golden Lasso ride, but it was unfortunately closed down for the day (we will definitely ride it next time as it's one of the most popular rides at the park). We moved on to the Poltergeist ride next. The theming of the entrance to the ride was reminiscent of the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney which was fun. We had about a 15-minute wait before we were quite literally launched on this rapid rollercoaster. The speed of takeoff was exhilarating, and this was our second favorite ride at the park!
Break for Lunch, Water Rides & More
Around 11:35am we had gone on 4 rides and we're ready to move on to the Fiesta Bay Boardwalk section for more rides, but it was closed until 1pm. This was a great chance to take advantage of playing games, getting food, and, though we didn't, this is a great opportunity to re-ride your favorites or check out some of the non-rollercoaster rides such as Joker Carnival of Chaos or the water rides (Bugs' White Water Rapids had an impressive looking entrance to the ride). We followed up on the Iron Rattler in the app and found out it also was closed down for the day.
Final Rides and Stops
After getting some snacks and playing some games, we were able to enter the Fiesta Bay Boardwalk section at 1pm. We went straight to the Pandemonium ride which quickly was closed down temporarily for maintenance. With no estimated wait time for re-opening, we decided to skip this ride this trip as it didn't look that exciting to us anyway. We finished off our rides with a very fun and chill ride on the Pirates of the Deep Sea. Much like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney, this is a slow-moving ride through an indoor landscape, but with a fun shooting game twist where you get to compete with the other people in your cart to see who gets the highest score. Afterwards, we had accomplished all of our rollercoaster goals (apart from those which were closed) and got some Kona Ice and Dippin' Dots on our way out of the park.
For those who want a longer day at the park and want to stick around for shows and fireworks in the evening, use this time to check out other rides or re-ride your favorites. Just keep in mind lines are longer at this time and waits have increased, but you can choose to purchase individual skip the ride lines if you wish (check out the app or do so in person at the park).
Important Tips & Tricks
Tickets: The cost of a one-day pass starts at $39.99 depending on the day and season. But we purchased our tickets on Groupon with this Book of Free coupons package, and our tickets came out to about $20 each! So, check out any offerings that may be available on other discount sites (be sure to use trusted and verified sites).
Additional costs: Saving money on tickets is a great way to offset the high costs at the park. For an order of nachos and a pretzel, we paid $20. Games cost us about $40 total for the both of us. Costs add up at the park, so eating before you go and finding cheaper meal options at the park can help you save some money. Pro tip: water cups can be obtained throughout the park for free! They're only given at booths/locations serving food. This saved us lots of money by avoiding buying drinks all day.
App: Download the Six Flags app. Period. You'll find helpful info such as events happening that day, map of the park offering search and navigation to what you're looking for, book fast passes for rides, mobile order food, and even see if rides are open or closed on the app before making the walk only to be disappointed!
Events: Be sure to check out when the park is offering special themes and events. We went during Fiesta in San Antonio, so there were special events and performances such as a mariachi band and folklorico performance and a Selena tribute happening that night!
*** Because this amusement park was built inside of old quarry walls, and due to the weather in San Antonio, be extremely mindful of the wind when planning your trip to this park! Due to high winds rides often will close or not open at all for safety reasons. ***
