Shows Around the World pt. 1

My top recommended shows from countries around the world

I like to consider myself a TV show enthusiast, and some of my favorite shows are from other countries. Whether subbed or dubbed, these shows have quickly made their way to the top of my list of favorites. Hopefully you'll find a new show to check out or be inspired to re-watch one you already love!

1. Northern Ireland

For a fun comedy with quick 20-minute episodes, check out Derry Girls. The show focuses on a group of teenagers growing up in Derry, Northern Ireland during the time of the Troubles. It has some heartlfelt moments and a ton of hilarious scenes that'll keep you coming back for more.

Check it out now on Netflix!

2. Spain

A drama that took the world by storm, Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) quickly became one of my top 5 favorite shows. A drama that follows an intense robbery of the Royal Mint of Spain led by an unlikely mastermind, this show will have you laughing and crying all in the same episode as you grow to fall in love with the characters. Watch it in it's original Spanish language with various subtitle options or change the audio to your language of choice.

Can be watched on Netflix!

3. Sweden

A quirky romantic comedy show based in Stockholm, Love and Anarchy (Kärlek Och Anarki) is a fun show that is both cute and funny. It follows a married woman as she enters a daring game of back-and-forth challenges with her new co-worker. With some unexpected twists, this show is one of the most unique ones I've watched in a while. It can be watched either dubbed or subbed.

Go to Netflix to check it out!

4. Japan

It took me a while to jump on the anime train, but once my fiancé introduced me to Erased (Boku dake ga Inai Machi), he had me hooked and eager for more. If you're new to the genre and not quite ready for an undertaking like Naruto that has endless episodes it seems, Erased is a great emotional drama that will introduce you to anime without the long commitment of multiple seasons.

Watch it subbed or dubbed on Netflix or Hulu now!

5. Colombia

Now I can't lie, Colombian shows have a special place in my heart and there's many top ones to choose from, but I had to stick with the roots of my love. The first Colombian show I watched was Queen of Flow (Reina del Flow) and it will always be one of my favorites. This drama based in Medellín follows a songwriter seeking revenge against the man who got her arrested and held in an American prison for 17 years. On her path of vengeance you'll get to enjoy the rich music scene of Colombia that is the birthplace of so many amazing Latin artists today.

Can be watched with its original Spanish audio or in French with various subtitle options on Netflix.

***Please be sure to look over all parental guides and warnings if you wish to watch any of these recommended shows with your kids as they have various ratings ranging from TV-14 to Mature.***
